Ski Tube Care and Maintenance

Thank you for your purchase of a ski tube from www.skitubedirect.com!!  Now that you own a ski tube, we want to insure that you have it available to use for many years and that it continues to be a safe piece of water sports equipment for your family.  Through proper care, your ski tube can last multiple years.  We recommend the simple steps below.

Proper Inflation

Proper inflation is critical to the safe and fun use of your ski tube.  Inflation procedures and directions will be included in the original packaging; please read it first.  It is very important not to over-inflate or under-inflate your towable tube as it can cause unsafe conditions and the boat tube will degrade faster, or even become unusable.  Symptoms of under inflation include water collecting in the tube, excessive drag on the boat, and the inability of the ski tube to hydroplane at recommended speeds.  Over inflation is easily diagnosed when the ski tube appears out-of-round, bulging inner bladder around the exterior cover, or when the ski tube can not be compressed with mild pressure applied to the bladder.  You should always check the inflation level before using the ski tube for the first time of the day, when switching people out, or any time you notice any of the symptoms listed above.

Cleaning Your Tube

Ski tubes are made up of exterior nylon and an interior PVC bladder.  Both types of materials are very easy to clean.  Use mild soap or dishwashing detergent and water.  Lightly rub the soapy water across the dirty areas.  Never use intense cleaning agents as they can leave a permanent stain and also weaken the nylon fabric or weaken the PVC bladder.  A faded exterior nylon is a sure indication that the fabric has weakened.  This is a natural condition caused by UV rays, so don’t be alarmed.  But, it will be time to keep an eye out for weaknesses in the exterior cover.

Proper Storage

When not is use, your ski tube should be stored in a clean, dry place that is as non-humid as possible.  Most important, make sure your towable tube is completely dry before storing.  Dampness encourages mold and mildew.  Additionally, store is a secure place that is not susceptible to small animals making a nest out of your stored ski tube.
